What is PRP joint injection?

A PRP joint injection is a regenerative treatment that uses your body’s own healing properties to help regenerate joint tissues, reduce pain, and improve joint function. During the procedure, a small sample of your blood is drawn and processed to concentrate the platelets, which are rich in growth factors. This platelet-rich plasma is then carefully injected into the affected joint.

PRP injections are commonly used to treat joint pain related to osteoarthritis, sports injuries, and chronic inflammation in areas such as the knee, shoulder, hip, foot & ankle, wirst, or elbow. Because PRP is created from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is minimal.

The procedure is performed in the office and typically takes less than an hour. Most patients can return to normal daily activities shortly after treatment. Over the following weeks, PRP works to support tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and promote long-term healing.

What is Steroids joint injection?

Steroids joint injections are anti-inflamatory medications that can reduce swelling in a painful joint while also helping to identify the cause.

You might benefit from joint injections for a painful shoulder, Knee, Elbow, Hip, foot & ankle, and wrist.

The joint injections themselves often contain corticosteroids, which are a type of drug that reduces inflammation. Reducing inflammation in a painful joint also reduces the pressure and pain that accompanies it.

Which conditions do joint injections treat?

Joint injections can alleviate joint pain and inflammation from several common injuries and degenerative conditions. While joint injections cannot cure any conditions that deteriorate the joints, they can offer relief for some time.

You might benefit from injections for joints affected by:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Gout
  • Tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • ligaments injury
  • fasciitis

Dr. Nabelsi can diagnose conditions like these using physical examination, imaging tests, and lab testing.

Are joint injections painful?

Joint injections can cause some mild temoporary local discomfort during the procedure. To make the procedure as comfortable as possible, Dr. Nabelsi applies a topical anesthetic to your skin before the injection. Some joint injections also have some mild anesthetic within them to minimize initial discomfort.
